- - - Da die Magneten vonalter Zeit her freund und verwandt sind- - - in der Absicht,die Ehren der ArtemisLeukophryene zu mehren, ein Dekret geschickthat, wonach sie beschlossen haben, im Fünf-jahresrhythmus ein Opfer zu veranstalten und eineProzession und Festfrieden und musischeund sportliche und hippische Spiele um Preise, die den pythischen gleich sind;und da sie das Volk ersuchten, an diesen Vorhabenteilzunehmen, und, wenn es akzeptiert hat,worum gebeten wurde, gemeinsam die beschlossenen Ehrenfür die Göttin zu mehren; und nachdem auch die vonihnen entsandten (Männer) Lampon, Diago-ras (und) Pythodemos bei ihrem Auftritt vor dem Ratund dem Volk in Übereinstimmung mit dem, was in dem Beschlussgeschrieben ist, mündlich vorgetragen haben; - damit nun auchdie Absicht des Volkes, die es zu jeder Zeit gegenüberdem Göttlichen und gegenüber den Magnetenöffentlich gemacht wird, zu Glück und Heil!, mögeman beschließen: ihnen als Antwort zu geben, dass das Volk auchin der vergangenen Zeit allen Eiferund alles Wohlwollen für das erzeigt hat, wovon in Briefendie Magneten die Rede war, und es jetzt mit derselbenGesinnung die Asylie und die Spieleund das Opfer akzeptiert; damit die Festgesandtschaftund das Opfer an die Göttin durch das Volk entsandt werden,möge die Volksversammlung drei Festgesandte aus allen (Bürgern) wählen; die Schatzmeistersollen zum Zeitpunkt, da die Magneten das Opferausrichten, an die Gewählten für das Opferdreihundert Drachmen auszahlen und Lohnund für eine Reise von dreißig Tagen das, wasdafür festgesetzt ist; betreffs der Siegespreise und derGeldpreise, damit diese den Siegern der Spiele übergebenwerden, sollen die für die Finanzverwaltung der Stadtgewählten Männer Vorsorge treffen; (sie sollen) aus denihnen übergebenen Mitteln (die nötigen Summen) für die[Geldpreise] anweisen; man soll die erschienenen (Gesandten)der Magneten zum Bankett einladen in das Pry-taneion.
- - - inasmuch as the Magnesians are fromancient times friends and relations- - -, intendingto increase the honors of ArtemisLeukophryene, having sent a decreewherein they have voted to conducta quadrennial sacrifice and festivaland truce and musical andgymnic and equestrian contest with honors equal to the Pythian,are calling upon the people to sharein the celebrations and by approvingwhat is asked join in increasing the votedhonors for the godden; and the men sent from them,Lampon, Diagoras,Pythodemos coming before the counciland the people, spoke in keeping with what iswritten in the decree; so that nowthe policy that the people maintains on everyoccasion toward the divine and toward the Magnesiansmay be manifest, for good fortune, it isdecreed: to answer them that the people bothin times past exercised all zealand devotion for what the Magnesianshave written, and now keeping to the same policyit accepts the inviolability and thecontest and the sacrifice; so that both a delegation anda sacrifice to the goddess may be sent in the people’s behalf,the assembly to to elect three theoroi from all citizens; the treasurers,at the time when the Magnesians conduct thesacrifice, are to pay out to those electedthree handred drachmas for the sacrifice, plus payand travel money for thirty days in theregular amount; as to the prizes andhonors, so that they are given to winners in thecompetition, the men elected to the fiscal administrationof the city are to see to it, out of the- - -, recording it in - - -;those who have come from theMagnesians are to be invited to hospitality in the pry-taneion.
